August 26, 1910 – September 5, 1997

Feast Day: September 5

Patron saint of Calcutta and the Missionaries of Charity

Born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia, Mother Teresa moved to India as a Sister of Loretto, eventually founding the religious order of the Missionaries of Charity. Their charism is to minister to the poorest and most vulnerable: the ill, children, and the dying. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, she became a global symbol of charity and the example of how “small things done with love can change the world.” She was canonized September 4, 2016.
